On the morning of October 30, the opening ceremony of the first Shing-Tung Yau Mathematics Contest for Female Middle School Students was held at Tsinghua University High School. The contest was initiated and chaired by Professor Shing-Tung Yau, an internationally renowned mathematician, with the aim of cultivating female mathematics experts and encouraging more female students to study mathematics. The first contest was sponsored by the Shing-Tung Yau Mathematical Science Center of Tsinghua University and was held by Tsinghua University High School.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Peng Gang, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Professor Shing-Tung Yau, the sponsor of the contest, and Dr. Wang Dianjun, Principal of Tsinghua University High School, delivered speeches respectively.

Professor Lu Jianghua from the Department of Mathematics of the University of Hong Kong and Karen Uhlenbeck, the first female mathematician to win the Abel Prize, sent special congratulatory messages to represent international female mathematicians. More than 140 contestants in Shing-Tung Yau Mathematics Contest for Female Middle School Students gathered with international mathematics masters to listen to their teachings.
In consideration of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, domestic and foreign finalists participated in the contest were arranged to compete in 14 nearby venues. After 3 hours of written examination and interview, a total of 25 students were awarded gold, silver, bronze and winner awards.
Closing Ceremony
On the evening of October 31, the closing ceremony of the first Shing-Tung Yau Mathematics Contest for Female Middle School Students was held in the lecture hall of Qingyan Building, Tsinghua University High School. Professor Shing-Tung Yau, double employed professor Harry Shum from the Higher Research Institute of Tsinghua University, Deng Yaping, Olympic champion, and table tennis grand slam winner, Dr. Wang Dianjun, Principal of Tsinghua University High School, and Lyu Yuhang, the sponsor of the awards, presented the awards to the students.
