The Online Supported Teaching Activity in 2020 for Nanjian, Yunnan Province by Tsinghua University High School Successfully Completes

From July 20th to July 24th, the 7th "Micro Public Welfare · Flying Dream" supported teaching activity for public welfare, jointly organized by the Special Fund for Cultivating Chinese Talents of China Next Generation Education Foundation, Tsinghua University High School and the "Tseng Hin Pei Charity Fund Limited" Volunteer Teaching Group, was held in Yongzheng Primary School, Baohua Town, Nanjian Yi Autonomous County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. In the context of epidemic control, the supported teaching activity was carried out online. 17 middle school students from Tsinghua University High School and 2 university student volunteers from Tsinghua University joined hands to bring 5 theme class meetings and 8 courses on Chinese, mathematics, English, history, music, art, physical education and handicraft to more than 30 local primary school students. The rich and interesting online activity is a kind of innovative exploration, which also introduces the supported teaching of Tsinghua University High School into a broader world.

Careful Preparation

Before the start of the activity, Meng Weidong, the Vice Principal of Tsinghua University High School and Executive Principal of Tsinghua High School Yongfeng, and Wu Xinsheng, the Secretary-General of the Special Fund for Cultivating Chinese Talents, went to Yongzheng Primary School to conduct preliminary research on the course location and relative equipment of supported teaching, and presented relevant equipment for supporting live courses and remote interaction to the school.

In order to ensure the teaching quality and help Nanjian Primary School students adapt to the new form of online teaching quickly, Ren Xingyang, Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Tsinghua University High School, carefully arranged the whole process from recruiting student lecturers’ team to establishing the 2020 Education Assistance Group. All the student lecturers carried out several rounds of online training and collective lessons preparation in their spare time and holidays.

Mr. Zhao Xi, from the geography teaching and research group of Tsinghua University High School brought the preliminary training to the education assistance group, guiding the student lecturers in preparing and recording lessons, so as to lay a solid foundation for the supported teaching.

In addition, the backbone members of the 2019 Education Assistance Group of Tsinghua University High School brought special online training to the juniors, sharing experience and advice, and guiding the preparation of teaching and learning plans, which benefits the new generation of student lecturers a lot.

Eight Major Courses with Rich Knowledge and Interest

The online teaching mode relies on the Air School platform of Tsinghua University High School. The education assistance group uploaded the recorded courses to the Air School, and the local primary school students could get them, along with the learning plans, lecture notes and other materials of online education, from the platform.

The Chinese course is divided into two sections, aiming to cultivate students' ability to understand and appreciate the text, enrich their extra-curricular knowledge reserve, and stimulate their creativity and imagination.

The Mathematics course is interesting and diverse. "Score Bread", "Logical Reasoning" and "Application of Mathematics in Life" were carried out from different aspects.

The English course consists of "My Hometown", "Four Seasons" and "Illustration Description", which enlightens the students in English and helps them to express their love for their hometown, appreciate the four seasons and describe different illustrations in English.

The History course focuses on the explanation of the history of World War II. Starting from the world pattern, the student lecturers inspire the students' understanding of globalization and guide them to think about the realization of the Chinese Dream.

The Art is one of the courses that students are very involved in. They learned the knowledge of Chinese knot and the concept and application of perspective.

In the Physical Education course, the lecturers explain the benefits of sports to students, share their experience, and encourage students to actively participate in sports activities to improve their physical quality and mental health.

An Art Performance Resonated with Everyone

On the afternoon of July 24th, the closing ceremony and art performance of "Micro Public Welfare · Flying Dream" supported teaching activity in Nanjian, Yunnan Province was held as scheduled. The primary school students and the members of Education Assistance Group put on wonderful performance that resonated with everyone shared the happiness.

The "Micro Public Welfare · Flying Dream" supported teaching activity of Tsinghua University High School, an educational project jointly sponsored by Tsinghua University High School and the Special Fund for Cultivating Chinese Talents of China Next Generation Education Foundation, has been carried out for six years since 2014. The project team takes "give others a dream and grow yourself a growth " as guiding principle, and has organized nearly 1,000 students to carry out multiple rounds of supported teaching activities in Sichuan Province, Shaanxi Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hebei Province. Adhering to its mission of education, the 105-year-old Tsinghua University High School will continue to carry forward the humanistic spirit as a famous school, serve China's education with the efforts of all the teachers and students, and share high-quality educational resources.
