Tsinghua High School Students Performed Excellently in 38th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition

On the morning of March 27, 2018, with the theme of "discovery, innovation and responsibility" the 38th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition was successfully held in University of Chinese Academy of Sciences at Yanqihu Campus. Bai Xuefeng, vice-principal of Tsinghua High School attended the award presentation ceremony. Students from Tsinghua High School were granted with many awards. Chen Tinghan from Senior 3 won the "Mayor Award"; Three students namely Zhao Yunqi from Junior 1, Liu Ziyan from Senior 2 and He Wanrong from Senior 2 won the First Prize; Liu Yandong from Junior 2, Xu Xiaomeng from Senior 2, Liu Yudong from Senior 2, Li Yuntong from Senior 2, Liu Qingyang from Senior 2 won the Second Price.

Chen Tinghan's prize-winning project is " auto response life-sustaining ventilator in fire control "This life-sustaining ventilator is an improved version of the existing ventilator. It is better because it is thermosensitive, lighter and can cut down the inspiratory temperature with high efficiency within a short time. Due to these advantages, this product can greatly reduce the personal injury and loss of life caused by fire.

"Beijing youth science and technology innovation mayor award" (the "Mayor Award" for short) aims at rewarding those senior high school students who perform well in study and also have high moral values. It is known as the highest honor among the teenagers in science and technology area. The prizes winners must go to students who achieved outstanding success in this year. By far it has been held for 16 times since it was first funded in 2003. During these years, there are only 110 "Mayor Award" winners and 25 "Mayor Award Nomination" winners across Beijing.

The 38th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition is co-sponsored by the Beijing municipal association for science and technology, Beijing municipal education committee, the Beijing municipal science and technology commission, the Beijing intellectual property office, Beijing Huairou district people's government. It is co-hosted by University of Chinese academy of sciences, Beijing youth science and technology center, the Beijing youth science and technology education association, Huairou association for science and technology, Beijing Huairou district education commission, Beijing Huairou district science and technology committee. After three days' fierce competition, altogether 97 First prize, 195 Second prize and 10 Best coach for outstanding youth science and technology innovation project were elected. Among all the prizes, International and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions took up 15 First prize and 17 Second prize. With the theme of "discovery, innovation and responsibility", the competition set various parts like private reply and review, open presentation and exchange, seminars for demonstrating science, forums for home and abroad teachers, outstanding youth demonstrating and evaluating activity and maker's experiencing activity and many other activities. The international maker's experiencing activity is a new part this year.

This year's competition attracted 300 thousand teenagers to take part. The total project amount reached 1992 across 16 districts with 192 projects under the guidance of 16 excellent coaches entering the final round. There are 13 foreign teams coming from the US, Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel and other countries. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions have 16 teams and presented 33 projects. Projects in fields like Biomedicine, zoology, mathematics and computer science managed to bring Chinese and foreign players to compete on the same stage with judges of different nationalities to comment simultaneously.
