On the west coast of the United States from February 5th to 18th, local time, Jinfan Chinese Orchestra from Tsinghua University High School, under the leadership of Deputy Principal Zhao Hongyan, Director of the Jinfan Orchestra's Office Hu Jun, and dance troupe instructor Zhao Qian, went to Los Angeles to participate in the "14th Chinese Spring Festival Gala in North America " performance by holding a special concert entitled "Realizing the Chinese Dream on the Hopeful Field". They also took part in the “2018 Hollywood Angel Cup International Youth Music & Art Festival” and won the gold medal.
The Chinese Spring Festival Gala in North America is a very influential cultural event for Chinese Americans and is held annually in Los Angeles. The theme of the 2018 Chinese Spring Festival Gala in North America was "Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of China's Reform and Opening-up". which was held at the PCC University Theatre on February 10th. At the invitation of the Chinese Spring Festival Gala Organizing Committee, the Orchestra played “Realizing the Chinese Dream on the Hopeful Field” at the opening performance for the Spring Festival Gala, which was created by Hu Jun specifically for this year’s Spring Festival Gala theme. To show their appreciation, the Spring Festival Gala Organization Department gave the Orchestra a banner titled “Spreading the Majestic Chinese Traditional Music and Demonstrating the Mental Outlook of Chinese Youth ”. Wang Dianjun, Principal of Tsinghua University High School and head of the Orchestra, and Bai Xuefeng, Deputy Principal of Tsinghua University High School and deputy head of the Orchestra also received an award for the wonderful performance.
On February 11th, 14:30 pm, the Orchestra co-hosted a special concert titled "Realizing the Chinese Dream in the Hopeful Field” with the Art Troupe of Tsinghua University Alumni Association of South California, as an expression of gratitude for the Tsinghua Alumni. During the concert, Tsinghua alumni across the Taiwan Strait gathered together to wish the Chinese all over the world a happy Chinese New Year.
There were altogether four generations of Tsinghua alumni across the Taiwan Strait, jointly demonstrating the Tsinghua spirit and singing the future of the motherland in unison. Zhang Sujiu, senior alumni of Tsinghua University and the outstanding representative of the overseas Chinese community highly praised the event. Xinhua News Agency and various news agencies in North America reported this event, which brought about positive social response.
In addition to the performances, the Orchestra also participated in the “2018 Hollywood Angel Cup International Youth Music & Art Festival” and won the gold medal. Zhao Hongyan, Deputy Principal of Tsinghua University High School, and other two teachers Hu Jun and Zhao Qian received awards of excellent instructors.
"Loving the country, the party and the people, and introducing the traditional Chinese music culture to the world" is the guiding principle the Orchestra has been firmly sticking to. Since its establishment 16 years ago, the Orchestra has organized over 100 performances of various kind, unfolding the splendid traditional Chinese music before nearly 200,000 audience both at home and abroad, covering a distance of 250,000 kilometers. The teachers and students have always had a strong passion for the national music culture adhering to Tsinghua University’s philosophy of “Self-Discipline and Social Commitment”, and conformed to the spirit of Chairman Xi Jinping’s speech at the literary and artistic work forum.
As part of the “Being a member of the Jinfan Orchestra and Casting the National Soul” education series, the Orchestra's office arranges for its members to participate in competitions and exchange activities during the holidays. The purpose is to urge the new students to enhance their technical training, increase their awareness of cooperation, and accumulate their experience in performing. The planning of the performance this time was started by the Orchestra's office as early as during the summer vacation. During the winter holidays, the teachers and students indefatigably took three days of intense training and successfully accomplished the task.
